Philosophical Musings

Y’know those things -videos, or whatever - that show a tree or something, and then zoom out to the street, the neighborhood, the city, the state, the country, the world, the solar system, the galaxy, and further?

The thing is - people always say ‘It was depressing; it made me feel so insignificant!’. I never got that, because isn’t it exciting to be a part of something so big? To know the world and the galaxy and the universe would be changed irrevocably without you? To think there’s all that life and potential out in the universe, happening and flowing and waiting to happen? Just by breathing, you change the course of the world, through the collisions of atoms that result from the wind of your breath, and all the chain reactions those set off. It’s like chaos theory with a positive outlook. But then…there’s chaos theory itself, which is that something as beautiful and ethereal as a butterfly can cause hurricanes simply by flapping its wings. And there’s the injustice - can things not be beautiful and good without equal destruction occurring? I think maybe there’s a balance. You just have to find it.
